Status Report: Jan31 08

Gamefest is going slow, but overall quite a bit of progress has been made in the toughest stage, the qualifications. Many registered participants were playing "hard to get" more than any other of the games we had in the gamefest, which ultimately resulted in many forfeits.

Now this is where we stand:

Nexuiz 1vs1

Congratulations champions. We actually have a Stage 2 here. Now, all that needs doing is - well - let's get those matches going! Looky here!

Nexuiz CTF

OK, don't laugh. These guys haven't even started playing yet. OK laugh now. :D

Seriously, Thunder_PT's team is pretty much disqualified. They just wont be able to pull it together. Team 1 might not be far off, and if that happens, then we can just convert this stage into a Stage 2, have the remaining two teams play a couple of times or more, just to make it harder on them, and declare one of them a victor. ;)

OpenArena 1vs1

vostorga vs. Phenax and
vostorga vs. free-zombie

is all that is needed for this to proceed into the next stage. However, I'm not betting on free-zombie not being disqualified. Let's at least do vostorga vs. Phenax, ok guys?!

OpenArena CTF

With the first group done and ready, second one is still squirming around. Valherus is currently the king in time. They play most and win most. :D What we gotta do is animate Team 1 and EGUSS and then do these matches:

Team 1 - Valherus
Team 1 - Team 3
EGUSS - Team 1
EGUSS - Team 3

Yes, that's all it takes to proceed to the final stage!

Tremulous

The gem of this gamefest is a bit slow lately. CY has finished their unstoppable wreckage because there's nobody to stomp on anymore, but the poor Team 1 which didn't quite get its act together. Forfeit anyone? Let's not throw it away just yet. Other groups not being in any better shape are buying them some time.

But I can't promise infinite time though.

I gotta say some teams are acting rather elitist here. You have to come to them to their channel to propose a match. Think tHc. And still nothing happens in almost weeks. So far most exemplary in terms of availability and cooperation were CY and =V=.

Matches that need to played:

Team 1 - -Camperz- / -CZ-
Team 1 - {wwF*}
Team 1 - CY
Team 1 - [HUN]
-Camperz- / -CZ- - {wwF*}
-Camperz- / -CZ- - [HUN]
{wwF*} - [HUN]
Team 2 - kiwi
Team 2 - =V=energetic
Team 2 - r3v
{tHc} - kiwi
{tHc} - r3v
kiwi - =V=energetic
kiwi - r3v
[psy] - Challenge Everything
{S}pikers - Challenge Everything
|FSN|Team - [psy]
|FSN|Team - {S}pikers
|FSN|Team - Challenge Everything

But I wouldn't be surprised if "Challenge Everything", [psy] and perhaps tHc get disqualified. The former two are silent even to the latest checks and tHc can't even talk themselves into coming up with a solid availability time...

Sometimes, a time comes when just doing a harsh cut is a must. That time is near.

Armagetron Advanced

One match played. Being a small tourney there's not too much left and matches can be done easily because they involve a smaller number of people playing all at once rather than one vs each other on each match.

----

This Freedomware Gamefest is clearly a prototype event, but it will have its winners and its losers, which will show themselves not just for their great or not so great skill of playing, but also their organization and overall passion for this competition. It is also a great learning experience for the organizers, first to do an event of this kind, and therefore lacking many comparison references.

Suffice it to say that even as a prototype event, it poses a great base for the next one, which wont let any of the currently established weaknesses to slow it down.

So let's do this to the end, with honour, make some noise and show that it can at least be done.
